So nice to stay in Nice - Hotel La Pérouse

Nice has long been regarded as a playground of the rich and famous. Located at the edge of one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline on the continent and overlooking the glistening turquoise waters of the Mediterranean, Nice is a place with a long history and a big reputation.

Those who have never visited this lively city would be forgiven for thinking that it may be out of their league, inaccessible and expensive. Well yes, Nice can be all these things but no – it certainly doesn’t have to be.

Much of the secret to staying in Nice is in choosing the right hotel. There are plenty that offer a luxurious base without commanding top-end, five-star prices. The Hotel La Pérouse is the perfect example.

Located right on the Robea-Capeu quay at the end of the famous Promenade des Anglais the ancient building of the Hotel La Pérouse has been lovingly restored over the past decade to create a unique boutique hotel nestled above Castel Beach, one of Nice’s most secluded and attractive coves.

Hotel La Pérouse is large enough to be able to offer quality facilities, yet small enough to retain something of an individual, boutique feel. Its 56 rooms and suites are decorated in woods and naturally finished marble, creating a warm and welcoming ambience with a strong streak of modernity. Many are orientated towards the sea, boasting private terraces with breath-taking views out over the water.

Guests can choose between standard double or twin rooms at around 20 square metres, deluxe rooms, junior suites and two grand master suites offering around 55 square metres of luxury space.

All rooms offer high-speed internet access for no additional cost, along with cable and satellite television, two direct telephone lines, dual-control heating and air conditioning, mini bar, safety deposit box, work desk and marble bathroom with hairdryer and complementary luxury bath products. Breakfast can be taken in the private comfort of your own room or in the hotel restaurant.

The Hotel La Pérouse boasts a good range of facilities to keep you occupied for those days when you don’t have the energy to get out and explore, including an outdoor heated pool, sauna, solarium and Jacuzzi and a fitness centre.

The hotel’s Patio restaurant and bar is a firm favourite amongst guests and locals. However, one of the delights of visiting Nice is discovering the quirky bistros and fish restaurants tucked away down unassuming side streets so do make sure you draw yourself away from the Patio’s allure at least a few times during your stay.

By day there is much to discover in the streets of the city, such as the Chagall Museum, the Matisse Museum, the Cours Saleya – the pedestrianized walkway that cuts its way through the old town – and the shaded greenery of the botanical garden.

Don’t leave without hiring a car and heading east to explore Cannes, home of the international film festival, and to marvel at the gilded excess that is Monte Carlo before returning to the comfort of your hotel for some peaceful and luxurious slumber.
